A Symbol of Empowerment

Updated: Jul 9, 2021

It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and this could not be more true for the breathtaking piece installed on the YWCA as a part of the 2020 Boon Street Art Festival.

The YWCA or Young Women's Christian Association is a global movement working for women's empowerment, leadership and rights. Focused on developing the wellbeing and achievements of young women in New Zealand, it is very fitting that Erika Pearce designed their mural.

Born and raised in Aotearoa, Erica is often inspired by woman, culture and nature, to create her vibrant work. This love and passion that Erica possesses is clearly portrayed through her art and is the perfect example of work the YWCA has set out to achieve.

The art that Erica has created for the YWCA is a clear symbol of female empowerment and will remain a source of inspiration for the young woman of New Zealand for years to come.
